Canada: Two Winnipeg institutions, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and Manitoba Museum, have entered into a partnership. The museums will share artefacts and expertise, develop programmes and exhibitions, and work on cross-promotional tourism and marketing.
France: The culture minister Aurélie Filippetti has unveiled plans to transfer works from the Louvre in Paris to a storage facility near the Louvre-Lens satellite branch in northern France. The Louvre’s holdings, which are stored in the basement of the museum building on the banks of the river Seine, could be damaged if the city floods.

Mexico: A major private museum is due to open this month in Mexico City, funded by the collector Eugenio López, the heir to the Jumex food and drink conglomerate. The Museo Jumex, designed by David Chipperfield, will house López’s 2,800-strong contemporary art collection.
Qatar: The largest-ever exhibition of Damien Hirst works opened at the Al Riwaq Art Space in Doha last month. The show features pieces spanning 25 years, including the artist’s natural history sculptures and medicine cabinets. The exhibition is organised by Qatar Museums Authority, which sponsored Hirst’s retrospective at Tate Modern in London last year.
US: The National Gallery of Art, Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of the American Indian and other federally funded museums in Washington, DC and New York temporarily closed last month following the government’s first shutdown in 17 years.

In a controversial move, the institution has been named after property developer Jorge Pérez, who has donated $35m in cash and art. The Pérez Art Museum Miami, designed by the Swiss architects Herzog & De Meuron, is located in the city’s Museum Park.
