The Derry Maritime Museum is set to be finished in April 2016. The £8.5m museum will be located in two listed buildings at a former naval base. More than 30,000 documents will come into public access, along with an exhibition on Derry’s history. The city’s military and naval roles will feature, including an exhibit on the role it played in the Battle of the Atlantic.


The Museums Association (MA)  and the British Council India have signed an agreement to offer museum studies students in India free access to the MA’s online resources. The universities taking part include Calcutta University, National Museum Institute in Delhi, MSU Baroda and Jiwaji University Gwalior. Students will have access to Museums Journal and Museum Practice, providing them with reference material and a chance to develop their knowledge of best practice in the UK.


The City of Adelaide, one of the fastest clippers of its day, was handed over to its new owner last month to be transported to Australia. The vessel had been at the Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine since it was salvaged in 1992. The clipper, which was built in 1864 to transport migrants to Australia, will be developed into a tourist attraction.


Trinity College London has launched the Arts Award Discover 5+, aimed at five- to six-year-olds, following a trial with 400 children. Achieving a Discover 5+ certificate will take children about 20 hours and will require them to find out about artists and their work.
