The family home of the Bronte sisters has undergone a £60,000 restoration – its first in 25 years. The Bronte Parsonage Museum in Haworth has been redecorated in the way in which it would have looked in the 1830s and 1840s, when the Bronte family lived there. It also includes features introduced by Charlotte during the early 1850s, funded by income from her novels, Jane Eyre, Shirley and Villette.


The Southbank Centre in London is to redevelop the festival wing, as part of an initiative to increase its arts and cultural programme. Plans for the Purcell Room, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Hayward Gallery, which date from the 1960s, are being drawn up by architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios. The plans will be on view at a public exhibition opening on 7 March.


The Science Museum Group and BT Archives have received £1.4m from the Arts and Humanities Research Council to fund 24 studentships over the next three years. The council has also awarded £67,000 to fund the Science Museum’s work with community groups studying their own heritage.


The Europe-wide Working Group on Mobility of Collections has published a report and toolkit to help museums share collections more effectively and cheaply across the continent.

The report focuses on improving indemnity schemes and the valuation processes for works of arts, and simplifying the process of risk assessment for loans.
