The Contemporary Art Society’s (CAS) £60,000 Commission to Collect prize has been awarded to The Collection and Usher Gallery in Lincoln, with the artist Oliver Laric.

Funded by the Sfumato Foundation, the annual award is designed to encourage partnerships between museums and artists, with the prize money going to the winning partnership for a new commission by the artist for the museum’s permanent collection.

Paul Hobson, the director of the CAS, said: “Oliver Laric is an artist who has attracted national and international interest recently and is at a critical juncture in his career, and we could not be more delighted that his work is entering such an important collection as that of The Collection and Usher Gallery.”
