Support for fellowships

Fourteen major cultural organisations in the UK have joined together to support fellowships on the Clore Leadership Programme. The five consortia-supported fellows from archives, heritage, museums and the performing arts will begin the programme this month. Organisations supporting fellowships include the British Museum, the National Trust and the Royal Opera House.

NMDC changes name

The National Museum Directors’ Conference has changed its name to the National Museum Directors’ Council. The move follows its recent strategic review, which expanded the organisation’s membership to major regional museums.

CAS appoints architect

Contemporary Art Society (CAS) director Paul Hobson has announced that architects Carmody Groarke will design its new headquarters in Clerkenwell, London. The building, which opens in October, will provide space to host public events and display works gifted by the charity to museums and galleries.

HLF unveils funding

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has announced £15.9m of funding towards the redevelopment of four museums: the Imperial War Museum London; the Design Museum, London; the Tank Museum, Dorset; and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. The HLF also awarded £4.85m to the National Museum of Scotland, towards an £11.85m project to create eight galleries, and £11.5m to St Fagans: National History Museum, its biggest-ever grant to a Welsh institution.
