The historic Cunard building on the river Mersey  will be used as a venue for the first time during the Liverpool Biennial, which opens in September. Based on the theme of hospitality, the biennial is due to include a public commission by US artist Doug Aitken, installed on Albert Dock in a temporary structure designed by architect David Adjaye.

The Unexpected Guest exhibition, part of the biennial, will feature established and emerging artists such as Elmgreen & Dragset, Mona Hatoum and Ming Wong.


The Riverside Museum in Glasgow, which opened last year, has won the Micheletti Award for innovation in the fields of technology and social history, for its approach to using the iPad. The prize is administered by the European Museum Academy.
 

The British Museum unveiled a redisplay of the 1,000 objects in its money gallery in June. The gallery, which has been sponsored by financial services firm Citi, looks at the impact of money throughout history.


A report published by Audit Scotland, which examined nine mergers that took place between 2008 and 2011, has found that some bodies operated for lengthy periods without a clear structure.

The document, Learning the Lessons of Public Body Mergers, was part of the Scottish government’s attempt to cut the number of public sector bodies by 25%. It focuses on the creation of organisations such as Creative Scotland and Skills Development Scotland.
