Issues with Big Society
One in three UK charities does not understand the government’s Big Society vision, according to a survey by IRIS NFP Solutions. More than two-thirds (68%) of respondents said they did not believe it was realistic for charities to take over government-run services, while more than three-fifths did not think that the coalition understood the burden this would place on the not-for-profit sector.
Art Fund Prize judges
The full judging panel for the Art Fund Prize 2011 has been revealed. Chairman Michael Portillo will be joined by a panel of six, including theoretical physicist Jim Al-Khalili, museum and heritage consultant Kathy Gee, artist Jeremy Deller, and Lars Tharp, curator of the Foundling Museum.
Unesco memory register
The second round of nominations is open for Unesco’s UK Memory of the World Register. The register launched this year to record the UK’s documentary heritage, including digital and audiovisual archives. The register includes the Pont Manuscript maps (above) – the earliest surviving topographic survey of Scotland.
