DCMS will move out of Cockspur Street by the end of the financial year, a DCMS spokesman said, in order to meet savings of 50% imposed by the Treasury.
Museums Journal understands that a decision on where the department will end up is to be made in the next month, but that the favoured option is to share premises with the Department for International Development (DFID) in Buckingham Palace Road.
A decision on where the remaining savings would be found had not been finalised, said the spokesman, but as yet no one in the department has been informed that their job would be at risk.
However, he added: “The department is currently looking at ways in which the headcount can be reduced.”
