Museums Scotland toolkit

A toolkit designed to help local authorities deliver services more effectively will be available to download this month from the Museums Galleries Scotland website. The Choices for Change project includes a methodology for decision-making and a review of current guidance, as well as a platform for the discussion of key public service-delivery issues. Wandsworth reopens

Wandsworth Museum, which closed in 2007 following a council cost-cutting exercise, has reopened in new premises in south London. An independent charitable trust has been set up to run the institution, supported by the Hintze Family Charitable Foundation. An annual pass to the museum, now located in a former library, costs £8.

RAF Radar shuts till 2011 

The RAF Radar Museum in Neatishead, Norfolk, has been forced to close following an investigation by Ministry of Defence fire inspectors. The museum trust reportedly needs to spend about £50,000 to ensure that fire regulations are met. The museum’s website says it will reopen next year.

Eureka! drops expansion  

Eureka! The National Children’s Museum in Halifax has abandoned plans to open a London branch. The decision follows a feasibility study which concluded that raising funds for two sites would be “extremely challenging in the current economic environment”.
