Museums have failed to make it into the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s (DCMS) top five priorities.

Its structural reform plan lists delivering a safe and successful Olympics, media reform, universal broadband and encouraging competitive sport in schools as the most pressing ambitions.

Boosting the Big Society also makes an appearance, as do plans to encourage philanthropic giving and to reallocate 60 per cent of lottery money to the arts, sport and culture from April 2012.

The plan says the department wants to agree administrative cost reductions with the bodies it funds by December 2010, following October’s spending review.
