Members of the National Trust for Scotland (NTS) have welcomed the appointment of Dick Balharry as interim chairman.
Balharry, formerly deputy chairman of the trust, succeeds Shonaig Macpherson, who is standing down prior to the completion in June of a review of the trust’s activities.
A spokesman for In Trust for Scotland, which claims to represent concerned NTS members, said: “Shonaig Macpherson’s resignation breaks one link with the discredited management policies that contributed to the current crisis.
“It is necessary to rebuild the trust’s governance structure from the top down, and we are hopeful that the review will learn from past mistakes.
“We wish Dick Balharry success in this very important role and look forward to an improvement in communication with NTS members.”
