The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has brought together the Royal Navy's four service museums under the National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN).

It is led by director general Dominic Tweddle, who joined last month from visitor attractions firm Continuum, where he was chief executive.

The NMRN comprises the Royal Naval Museum, Royal Marines Museum, Royal Navy Submarine Museum and the Fleet Air Arm Museum. From 1 April, all MoD funding will be channelled through the new organisation.

"For the MoD, it is probably easier to give one set of grants to one museum rather than four," said Tweddle.
