Story of Wales website

The Welsh Assembly has launched a website to tell the story of Wales through the eyes of its people. The People’s Collection Wales uses film, audio, images and text drawn from collections at the National Museum Wales and National Library of Wales, as well as from private collections. Users can also upload their own content.

Indian initiative unveiled

Culture secretary Jeremy Hunt (pictured above) and his Indian counterpart Jawhar Sircar have signed a memorandum of understanding committing to develop a programme of cultural exchanges, facilitate sharing exhibitions and collaborate on skills sharing. The initiative will be coordinated by the British Council. The British Library, British Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum have also announced collaborations.

Advisory committees axed

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport will abolish the Advisory Committee on Historic Wreck Sites and declassify the Advisory Committee on National Historic Ships, transferring its functions to another body.

The government is also considering the role and remit of English Heritage, the Heritage Lottery Fund, the National Heritage Memorial Fund, the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, VisitEngland and VisitBritain.

Museums switch to trust

Four museums run by Northumberland County Council – the Morpeth Chantry Bagpipe Museum, Old Gaol and Moothall in Hexham, and Berwick Museum and Art Gallery – have transferred to the Woodhorn Trust.
