Christober Baker and Stuart Lochead have been appointed members of the Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art. Baker is the director of European and Scottish art and portraiture at the National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh. Lochead set up his own firm in 2018 dealing in European sculpture from the late-medieval period to Rodin. Prior to that, he spent 23 years at the Courtauld Institute of Art, mounting numerous exhibitions on European sculpture in New York and London. Phillip Walker has become the head of cultural services at Gloucester City Council. He moves from his position as the head of engagement for Bristol City Council as part of its Culture Team. London’s Royal Academy of Arts has elected Rebecca Salter as its 27th president. She succeeds Christopher Le Brun, who has stepped down after eight years in the role. Salter was elected by her fellow Royal Academicians at a general assembly meeting. She is the first female president of the RA in its 251-year history. Michael Bedingfield has been appointed the chair of the Royal Pavilion and Museums Trust. The trust will look after the museums service from April. Bedingfield, a Brighton resident and former chief executive of Tourism South East, has a strong track record in the city and with museums, serving as trustee and chair of the fundraising committee for the National Museum of the Royal Navy and on the Royal Pavilion & Museums shadow board. Brighton & Hove’s museums service looks after the Royal Pavilion, the Royal Pavilion Garden, Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, Preston Manor, Hove Museum and the Booth Museum of Natural History. The Serpentine Galleries, London, has appointed Bettina Korek as its CEO. She will be working in partnership with the Serpentine’s artistic director, Hans Ulrich Obrist. Korek, who will start work in March, has more than 15 years experience as an arts advocate and administrator. She is the executive director of Frieze Los Angeles. Marian Campbell has been reappointed as a trustee at the Treasure Valuation Committee for five years. She is a specialist in enamels, jewellery and the decorative arts of the middle ages, and in base and precious metalwork of all periods. For much of her career Campbell worked at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, latterly as its senior curator of metalwork. Following a move last year that saw the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (Mima) lead Teesside University’s Fine Art provision, Mima School of Art & Design has appointed two professorial roles to add new expertise to the courses. Curator Sarah Perks and artist Mikhail Karikis started the new roles in December last year. Karikis has presented work in galleries across the UK while Perks’s experience includes the role of artistic director at Home, Manchester.
