I’m Theas and I am 21 years old. I live in Cheltenham while accessing a supported internship programme at the National Star College. I am a wheelchair user and proud to be representing those with disabilities in the workplace.

I started volunteering at the Wilson gallery last September. After working with my job mentor to seek a placement that was not only accessible for me but also sparked my interests, I have not looked back. I have loved every minute of being made to feel like a valuable member of the team and being involved in all areas of stewarding.

I continue to learn every day, not just about the wonderful art that’s on show but also about key life skills, such as working with members of the public and fellow volunteers. The Wilson has supported me to develop all areas of my life, such as allowing me to start slightly later, so I can access travel training, which helps me be more independent.

I am proud and happy that the Wilson has given me this chance to do something I am good at while flying the flag for disabilities. Not everyone knows that we can have a job, paid or voluntary. By seeing me or hearing my story, I hope it could inspire you too.
After all, it’s not what you can’t do, it’s what you can.
