The National Galleries of Scotland (NGS) has appointed Jo Coomber as its new director of public engagement. She moves from her role as marketing director for Dobbies Garden Centres.

Elaine Bedell, the former director of entertainment and comedy at ITV and controller of entertainment at the BBC, has been appointed chief executive of London’s Southbank Centre. Bedell will be the first woman chief executive of the arts centre in its 66-year history and will take up her post this month, succeeding Alan Bishop who announced his retirement from the role in November.

Jane Weeks is stepping down from her role as museums and heritage adviser for the British Council, to pursue other interests.

Katie Cavanagh has begun her role as the new head of collections and exhibitions at the National Football Museum in Manchester. Cavanagh was the head of the curatorial and technical departments for Stockport Council for 16 years, before taking up her new post.

Susan Raikes, the head of the department of learning and national partnerships at the British Museum in London, has joined the board of trustees for the Postal Museum, which is due to open in London this July following a £26m redevelopment by architect Feilden Clegg Bradley.

Turner’s House Trust has appointed Lucy Thompson to the new post of house director of Sandycombe Lodge, JMW Turner’s Twickenham villa.

The Holburne Museum, Bath, has announced the appointment of its new director, Chris Stephens, currently head of displays and lead curator, modern British art at Tate Britain.
