“On a visit to Salisbury Museum, I saw its Downton lace, a type of bobbin lace produced locally that was used for edgings and insertions. As a lace-maker myself, I knew I wanted to help out in some way.
I am currently between jobs so volunteering is not only an opportunity to continue with my creative hobby but also the chance to maintain my keyboard skills for my next paid role.
I have many years of administration experience gained from high-end retail positions and other commercial companies. In the museum, I have been able to use these skills by helping with work on Excel spreadsheets and taking minutes of various project meetings.
The museum, located within the historic setting of The Close, plays a huge part in attracting visitors to the area around Salisbury Cathedral. The Wessex Gallery displays artefacts that have been found in the area over the years.
I have been contacting local history and archaeology societies to ask if any of their members would be interested in volunteering here and asking local businesses if we could display our promotional material in premises such as cafes, dentist and doctors’ waiting rooms.”
