Peter Wakelin, formerly the secretary of the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales, is the new director of collections and research at Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales.

Tonya Nelson is the new head of UCL Museums and Collections. She was the manager of the Petrie Museum, London.

Kate Brindley has joined Bristol’s Arnolfini as interim director. She was the director of the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art.

Will Palin has joined the Old Royal Naval College as its director of conservation. He was the director of Save Britain’s Heritage.

The National Museum of the Royal Navy, Portsmouth, has appointed historian David Morgan-Owen as its visiting research fellow. Two honorary associate research fellowships have been given to historian Tim Benbow and academic and retired rear-admiral Mike Farquharson-Roberts.

Phillip Prodger will start at the National Portrait Gallery (NPG), London, as the head of its photograph collection on 1 June. Former photographer curator Terence Pepper is now the NPG’s senior special adviser on photographs.

Six trustees have been appointed to the National Heritage Memorial Fund and the Heritage Lottery Fund: Roger De Haan, ex-chairman and chief executive of Saga; David Heathcoat-Amory, the chairman of the London and Devonshire Trust; Tom Tew, the chief executive of the Environment Bank; Sandie Dawe, the chief executive of VisitBritain; and Steve Miller, the head of the Norfolk Museums and Archaeology Service.

Perdita Hunt, the director of the Watts Gallery Trust, will join in July.
