India: The Azadi Ke Diwane museum in New Delhi has opened to document the country’s independence movement. The museum, in the city’s Red Fort, will pay homage to the unsung heroes involved in the struggle for freedom from 1857-1947.
Iran: Artists have accused the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art of buying their work cheaply and selling it at a premium on the private market without their knowledge. Sami Azar, a former director of the museum, said works were acquired by a separate government-funded institution.
Iraq: A carved stone from the second millennium BC, looted from Iraq and then seized at London’s Heathrow airport, has been handed back to the Iraqi authorities. British Museum curator St John Simpson described it as
a “museum-quality piece”.
