Museums Galleries Scotland appoints chief executive officer

Lucy Casot replaces Joanne Orr
Museums Galleries Scotland has appointed a new chief executive officer to replace Joanne Orr who left the organisation in February.

Lucy Casot joins the national development body for museums from her role as the head of the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) Scotland. During her time at the HLF, Casot oversaw museum capital developments including the Riverside Museum, Glasgow; Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, Ayrshire; National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh; and the V&A Dundee. She also supported programmes for skills training, collections management, learning programmes and acquisitions.

“Coming from a funding organisation, I know the challenges facing the sector and I understand how important MGS’s role is to ensure that our museums continue to thrive,” Casot said.

Casot will start her new role in January 2019, when John McLeish, the interim CEO of MGS, will return to a position on the organisation's board.

Orr left MGS in February after 13 years.
