Applications have opened for the Art Fund’s Museum of the Year awards.
All museums and galleries in the UK are invited to apply for the £100,000 prize, which recognises exceptional achievement and innovation.

For the first time a fund will be made available to shortlisted museums with a turnover of less than £5m to help cover the cost of campaigns to raise the museum’s profile ahead of the judges’ decision.
On the judging panel are: curator and cultural historian Gus Caseley-Hayford; BBC arts editor Will Gompertz; historian Ludmilla Jordanova; and artist Cornelia Parker. Stephen Deuchar, the director of the Art Fund, will chair the panel.

The deadline for applications is 10 February 2016, with the shortlisted museums being revealed on 29 April. The awards ceremony will take place at the Natural History Museum in July.
Stephen Deuchar, director of the Art Fund said: “The Museum of the Year above all seeks out and rewards innovative practice. It matters, both for the museums, for whom winning the prestigious £100,000 prize can have a transformative impact, and for their audiences.”

Charity VocalEyes will be providing audio descriptions of shortlisted museums, and will work with them to ensure they are fully equipped for blind and partially-sighted visitors.

Applications can be made via the Art Fund's website until 12 noon on 10 February.
