Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS) is inviting applications for grants from its first-ever partnerships fund.
Awards from £1,000 to in excess of £20,000 can be made for collaborations at a local, national or international level. The fund has a total pot of £200,000.
“The economic and social challenges museums are facing just now have resulted in a rise in partnership working as a means of encouraging efficiency,” an MGS spokeswoman said.
Partnerships can span multiple years but projects requesting more than £5,000 will be expected to demonstrate “extensive engagement” with the sector and “show an intention to increase and drive sector resilience”.
The fund has been open for a few days and MGS said initial interest has come from a range of museums across Scotland wanting to work with other museums, cultural bodies and the commercial sector.
Every application must show that the main beneficiary will be an Accredited museum, although MGS says funds will be used to “support partnerships across and beyond the museum sector”.
MGS chief executive Joanne Orr said: “The fund can support partnership projects of different sizes and, while the grants will be available to support new collaborations across the cultural sector, we are also keen to support innovative, cross-sector connections around Scotland.”
