Belgium: Five museums are to open in Mons, Belgium, this spring as part of the 2015 European Capital of Culture festival. They include the Mons Memorial Museum and the Musée du Doudou. The museums have budgets ranging from €2m (£1.5m) to €8m (£5.9m).
Peru: The government has announced plans for a 49,000 sq ft museum on an archaeological site south-east of Lima. It will house 500,000 artefacts, with many from two Lima museums: the Museum of the Nation in San Borja and the National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History of Free People in Pueblo Libre. The building is scheduled for completion by summer next year.
Spain: A museum on the art of Africa, Asia, Oceania and America opened in Barcelona last month. The Museum of World Cultures, in the El Born neighbourhood near the Museu Picasso, houses the holdings of the city’s Ethnological Museum, which closed in 2012, and objects from private Catalan collections.
US: The Bronx Museum of Art in New York and Cuba’s National Museum of Fine Arts have launched a cultural exchange programme covering exhibitions and education. More than 100 works from the Bronx Museum will be shown in Havana from May, coinciding with the Havana Biennial. Next year, 100 works from the Cuban museum will go to New York.
