Griff Rhys Jones is to front a quiz show set in Britain’s museums for BBC4.

The broadcaster has commissioned eight 30-minute episodes of The Quizeum from Rhys Jones’s production company, Modern Television, which produces series including Hidden Killers of the Tudor Home and A Poet in New York.

The former star of Not The Nine O’Clock News will host a series of quizzes across the UK in locations including the National Maritime Museum and the Foundling Museum, both in London and the Ashmolean in Oxford. The full line-up of locations will be announced shortly.

Rhys Jones will be joined by a panel of guests, including historian Dan Cruickshank, Antiques Roadshow regular Lars Tharp, art and cultural historian Janina Ramirez, author and historian Kate Williams and the chief of naval staff, Alan West.

The panel will be divided into two teams to answer questions about artefacts in each museum and to take part in a treasure hunt.

The series will be broadcast on BBC4 later this spring.
