Paul Hobson has been appointed as director of Modern Art Oxford.

Hobson, who has more than 20 years’ experience in the visual arts sector, will leave his post as director of the Contemporary Art Society in the summer, and join the Oxford institution in September.

David Isaac, chairman of Modern Art Oxford trustees, said: “The trustees and staff will work with Paul to shape the future of the gallery, and to ensure it continues to make a vital contribution to the development and understanding of contemporary art.”

Hobson will take over from David Thorp, who was appointed as interim director last year, following the suicide of Michael Stanley.

The Contemporary Art Society is looking to recruit a new director.
