Welsh Assembly member John Griffiths has been appointed minister for culture and sport following a reshuffle of the Welsh government.
He replaces Huw Lewis, who is now the minister for communities and tackling poverty. Lewis had championed a heritage bill for Wales, which could lead to museums becoming a statutory service.
Lewis also stressed the importance of Communities First, the Welsh government’s programme to improve living conditions for people in disadvantaged communities.
His former responsibilities have been split, with Griffiths focusing on culture and sport, and Carl Sargeant taking on housing and regeneration.
Griffiths was previously the minister for environment and sustainable development.
