The Happy Museum Project has unveiled a second round of awards to six museums working towards a high-wellbeing, sustainable society. The Garden Museum, in London, received £6,050; Chiltern Open Air Museum received £9,177; Reading Museum received £9,900; Beaney House of Art & Knowledge, in Canterbury, received £11,625; the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust received £9,000; and the Imperial War Museum North, in Salford, received £14,250.


The rest of the 2012-13 financial year will see changes to the Prism Fund (for the Preservation of Industrial and Scientific Material). The maximum grant has risen from £12,000 to £20,000, and the match-funding requirement has been reduced to 10%.


To mark its 90th anniversary, the BBC has gifted its collection of about 1,000 objects telling the story of British broadcasting to the National Media Museum in Bradford. The collection features radio and television studio equipment, as well as production props, radio and television receivers, and publicity material.


York Art Gallery will shut for more than two years while it undergoes a £7.6m redevelopment. It will involve the creation of a first-floor gallery and expansion into rooms currently occupied by the city archives, which will move to new premises in the library. The gallery will close on 31 December and reopen by Easter 2015.
