The 2011 Scottish Household Survey has revealed a rise in the percentage of adults participating in cultural activities and attending cultural venues.
The government-run survey of more than 31,000 households found that the level of cultural engagement had risen from 85% in 2010 to 87%.
Meanwhile, 45% of adults were satisfied with council-run museums and galleries, while 28% had visited a museum in the past year.
Culture secretary Fiona Hyslop said “even more people are enjoying these [cultural] attractions” in light of the government’s decision to maintain free access to national collections.
Creative Scotland chief executive Andrew Dixon added that a further rise in participation was expected as a result of the Year of Creative Scotland 2012 programme.
