Museums in the East Midlands and South Yorkshire are set to benefit from Renaissance strategic support funding, Arts Council England (ACE) announced today.
Strategic funding will be invested in geographic locations not served by major partner funding and will be used to fund specific areas of work such as campaigns to embed learning from Cultural Olympiad activity and projects to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of world war one in 2014.
Split into two phases, about £7m of strategic support funding is available this year with a further £15m in 2013/14 and in 2014/15.
ACE said it would commission bids in the East Midlands and South Yorkshire for the first phase. If successful, these commissioned projects will run for the full three years, 2012-15.
Alan Davey, chief executive of ACE, said: “In announcing this final part of Renaissance, I hope that museums who have not already benefitted from the programme will be able to use these funds to help ensure a healthy future.”
ACE also intends to work with the Association of Independent Museums and the Museums Association on projects to ensure the resilience of the sector through commissioned projects and research around governance models and workforce.
Any remaining funds will also be offered to Accredited museums in regions to meet other strategic and geographic gaps. Full details of successful bids will be announced in the autumn.
Applications for the 2013/14 tranche of funding will open in September, and Accredited museums based in England with over 15,000 visitors per year will be able to apply for an amount between £50,000 and £500,000.
