Survey finds enthusiasm for mobile technology

A Museums Association (MA) survey has found that museums are enthusiastic about how mobile technology can boost visitor engagement.

The survey was carried out by the MA and Fusion Research + Analytics, alongside a similar study of American Association of Museums members.

Nearly half of respondents offer mobile platforms, from traditional handheld guides to newer features such as QR codes and smartphone apps. The results reveal some of the challenges to mobile take-up, as well as how UK museums compare with those in the US.

The findings have been used to inform the latest edition of Museum Practice, which examines the rise of mobile projects in the sector, and explains how museums can take a strategic approach to mobile initiatives.
