The organiser of the Art Fund Prize for museums and galleries, the Museum Prize Trust, has marked the prize’s 10th anniversary by launching an award to find 10 “unsung museum heroes”.
Museum and galleries can nominate staff and volunteers who have made a significant contribution to their organisation.
Nominations opened last month, and forms can be downloaded from the Art Fund Prize website. The deadline for nominations is 12 April.
The 10 unsung museum heroes will be announced in the June issue of Museums Journal, which will also feature a brief interview with each winner.
The winners will be invited to the awards ceremony of the Art Fund Prize 2012 at the British Museum in June, and given an exclusive tour of the museum. Winners will also receive a national art pass from the Art Fund.
Penelope Cobham, chairwoman of the Museum Prize Trust, said: “In our 10th anniversary year, we are delighted to also celebrate the unsung heroes of the museum world whose invaluable contributions have a significant impact on organisations and their relationships with the public.”
