A restructure at St Albans City & District Council has led to nearly 18 full-time equivalent posts being made redundant and 15.5 new roles being created within the museum service.

The scrapped roles include collections manager, projects officer and conservation officer.

The new posts include several front-of-house positions, as well as roles focused on audience development and learning.

Richard Shwe, the council’s head of community services, said: “The reorganisation is being undertaken in the context of the need for museums to demonstrate a clear ambition to engage with museum-goers and focus on learning, as we enter a period of reduced public funding.”

The restructure will save the council £52,860.
