Harriet Harman, the deputy leader of the Labour party, has been appointed the shadow secretary of state for culture, media and sport in Ed Miliband’s new shadow cabinet.
She replaces Ivan Lewis, who is to move to the Department for International Development after just one year covering culture.
Last week Lewis faced media criticism after proposing a licensing scheme for the press. His office declined to comment on why he'd been removed from the post.
Harman’s new role in the shadow cabinet will see her remain as deputy prime minister and party chair, as well as taking on the role of shadow secretary of state for culture, media and sport. She has been an MP since 1997 and is currently MP for Camberwell and Peckham in London.
