The Arts Council England (ACE) and the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) have released an update on their integration including a “roadmap” for Renaissance in the Regions.

The MLA will publish the Renaissance budget for 2011-12 by Friday 11 February. This will cover how £35m will be distributed among regional museums as well as the funding for “priority projects” such as the V&A Purchase Fund, PRISM, digital services, Museums at Night and Kids in Museums.

ACE will announce its long-term plans for Renaissance this autumn. Applications for Renaissance funding for 2012-15 will open in September and funding decisions will be announced by the end the current year. From 2012-13, ACE will fund the V&A Purchase Fund and PRISM from the Renaissance budget.

In a statement, ACE said it supports the MLA’s vision for a reshaped Renaissance and continues to review the role it expects core museums to fulfil within the museums sector alongside the role of organisations funded by the new national portfolio funding programme. ACE plans to consult with the museum sector during spring and summer, before taking final decisions on the new shape of Renaissance.

Alan Davey, chief executive of ACE, said: “Although there are considerably less funds available than in previous years, and we have some tough decisions ahead, there is room for ambition alongside pragmatism.”

Today's statement also includes the news that Andrew Motion, the current chair of MLA, will join the national council at ACE as an observer to provide expertise on museums and libraries.
