Cardiff Story, which is due to open in the Welsh capital in the autumn, has attracted a “substantial” donation from a local benefactor.
The £4.4m project received the undisclosed sum from Henry Engelhardt, chief executive of the Admiral financial-services brand.It has also been allocated £1.75m by the local authority and £440,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Cardiff’s city museum closed in 1924. The new one will be housed in the Grade II*-listed Old Library Building in the city centre.
It will house a core collection of 8,000 items that have been stored by National Museums Wales. The Engelhardt donation will fund interactive displays and teaching programmes.
