The Ministry of Justice has asked the Egalitarian Trust, which oversees the Galleries of Justice Museum and the National Centre for Citizenship and the Law (NCCL) in Nottingham, to submit a proposal for a citizenship centre in London.

The museum created the NCCL to deliver its education services, and they now operate as separate entities under the Egalitarian Trust. The proposal follows a feasibility study that concluded there was a need for a centre to deliver the NCCL's education services in the capital.

Tim Desmond, chief executive of the Egalitarian Trust, said that while the new centre would not be a museum, it would use an authentic courtroom.
