An artist has accused Culture and Sport Glasgow (CSG) of censorship after he claimed he was forced to withdraw works of art from an exhibition.
Dani Marti had been commissioned by CSG to produce work for the S [out] exhibition. The show, which is currently on at the city's Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA), looks at lesbian, gay, bisexual, intersex and transgender life.
Marti told Museums Journal that as a result of CSG's decision to cancel three of his four commissions that were to be shown at GoMA, he was forced to withdraw all his work from the gallery.
CSG director Mark O'Neill said the purpose of the programme was to raise awareness, but the nature of some exhibits had provoked a response that had negated this aim.
"In order to reframe the debate, a weekend of film and discussion will be held at Tramway [arts centre] and Dani Marti's work will be included," said O'Neill.
"We respect his decision to withdraw his installation at GoMA and understand his disappointment. But our first priority must be to protect the integrity of the entire programme, the great majority of which is unchanged."
