The proposed £30m revamp of the South Kensington museum district in west London has been boosted by a £10m cash injection from Transport for London (TfL).

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "I have asked TfL to make an additional contribution of £10m towards the costs of developing Exhibition Road [home to the Science Museum, Natural History Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum], which will enable this project to get under way early."

TfL had already pledged £3.3m to the project, with the borough of Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster council providing the remaining funding.

The "shared" space scheme for cars and pedestrians is set for completion by late 2011.
