MLA unveils report

The Museums, Libraries and Archives Council has published a report, the London Knowledge Transfer Programme, which looks at how businesses can benefit from the sector's expertise. An accompanying series of pilot projects, including an exchange programme for business and museum and archive staff, has been launched.

Northern art shortlist

Clare Charnley, Richard Forster, Paul Rooney and Imogen Stidworthy have been shortlisted for the second Northern Art Prize, an award for contemporary artists living in the north of England. An exhibition of their work will open at Leeds Art Gallery on 21 November. The winner will be announced on 15 January.

Body to appoint directors

Creative Scotland will appoint a board of directors and chief executive by April. The new national development body for arts and culture, which will incorporate the Scottish Arts Council and Scottish Screen, will inherit the £55.1m grant-in-aid set to be awarded to the two bodies in 2009-10.

Leicester gallery eyes 2010

A gallery is set to open in Leicester by spring 2010 which will host national collections and house a contemporary crafts shop. It will replace the City Gallery, which closes in March.

Art Fund Prize judges

The judging panel for the 2009 Art Fund Prize will include politician and film producer David Puttnam; former director of the Imperial War Museum, Robert Crawford; and artist Grayson Perry. The closing date for entries is 31 October
