The future of Cogges Manor Farm Museum in Witney, Oxfordshire, has been assured in the short term at least, after the county council announced that it would continue its current funding of £250,000 for 2008-09.
The contribution from the council is set to decrease in the following three years when planned external investment is expected to gradually come on stream.
Fears that Oxfordshire County Council would close the museum to plug the council's £250,000 annual shortfall led to a public outcry (Museums Journal, January 2008, p9).
Councillor Jim Couchman, the council's cabinet member responsible for the museum, said: "Never at any stage did that [the shortfall] mean we were all fired up to close the museum."
