Karen Guthrie and Nina Pope won the £16,500 Northern Art Prize last month. The new prize is for professional artists of any age working in any medium. The only criterion is that they must work in Yorkshire, the North West or the North East.

The prize is backed, to the tune of £120,000, by communications agency Logistik, with support from Leeds City Council and design firm Arup. The other shortlisted artists were Eric Bainbridge, Tim Brennan and Dan Holdsworth, who each received £1,500. The exhibition is at Leeds Art Gallery until 10 February.
