Welsh museums will continue to have the right to apply to the V&A Purchase Grant Fund and the PRISM Grant Fund, which are allocated by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA), until 2009.
The decision was reached after the MLA, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, and Museums, Archives and Libraries Wales (Cymal) met last year (Museums Journal, December 2007, p8).
An MLA spokesman said: "Nobody wants to chop funding overnight." But he added: "It's a historical anomaly that MLA England is still funding Welsh things." Further discussions will now take place.
