Quentin Blake is close to securing a site in the King's Cross area of London for his Museum of Illustration.
The illustrator and children's author has been looking for a site for the £5m project since 2002, when he set up the Museum of Illustration as a registered charity. It will showcase the work of illustrators and will collect significant works, including Blake's archive.
"We are in the final stages of negotiation, so we can not go public at this stage on exactly where it is," said Flora Craig, who became the Museum of Illustration's project director in March. "We are looking to move there in 2011."
The museum will be part of the £2bn redevelopment of King's Cross. Property developer Argent is seeking other museums and galleries to occupy the 67-acre site.
