Museums Galleries Scotland (MGS), National Museums Scotland and National Galleries of Scotland are preparing themselves for cuts following the Comprehensive Spending Review in October.
Joanne Orr (pictured above), chief executive of the MGS, said: “We understand we will receive news on the impact of the spending review in Scottish budget terms in November. In the meantime, we are considering the potential consequences.”
National Museums Scotland and National Galleries of Scotland confirmed that they were preparing for reductions in grant-in-aid, but that any decision would be made after the spending review.
A spokeswoman for the Scottish government said: “It is absolutely right that across the public sector there should be planning under way for the huge financial challenge facing Scotland in dealing with cuts imposed by Westminster.”
John Stewart-Young, arts and heritage manager at Dundee City Council and an MGS board member, said: “As a local authority, we are implementing 12 per cent cuts across the authority this year.
“There will be more to come, and we will lose staff. I would be surprised if it’s not the same for the nationals and MGS.”
