Birmingham Museums begins recipe box home deliveries

The service will provide ingredients and instructions for people to make pizza and brunch dishes from its cafe menus
Birmingham Museums has launched a service that enables local people to recreate dishes normally served at its cafes in their own homes.
People within a 15-mile radius of Thinktank, the city’s Science Museum, can now order the ingredients and instructions to make two brunch dishes – eggs benedict and smoked salmon and eggs – from the Edwardian Tearooms at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. The museum service is also offering a recipe box for making pizza from the bakehouse at Sarehole Mill, a 250-year-old watermill.
The boxes are priced between £15 and £18, including delivery, and feed two people. The first orders are being taken this week, with deliveries will be made over the bank holiday weekend. The service will continue in future weeks.
Sarehole Mill has also turned its gift shop into a small community food shop selling essentials such as flour, pasta and tinned produce.
The revenue from these initiatives will be used to support the work of the museum service while its nine sites are closed to the public.
Alex Nicholson-Evans, commercial director at Birmingham Museums, said: “We really miss being able to serve delicious meals to our visitors across our sites, so we are thrilled to be launching this new delivery service for the people of Birmingham. We’ve chosen three of our most popular dishes, so you can enjoy re-creating the recipes in the comfort of your own kitchen.
“Sales in our restaurants and shops are one of the main ways we are able to fund the work we do as a charity, and while our doors are closed, we are no longer able to generate this income. By ordering a recipe box you’ll be able to enjoy a tasty meal at home, whilst also supporting Birmingham Museums during this challenging time.”
