Historic Royal Palaces has recruited Caroline Walker as the head of Hillsborough Castle & Gardens, a Georgian estate and royal residence in Northern Ireland. Walker was previously senior engagement manager for strategic projects at Queen’s University Belfast. 

Joe Sullivan has been appointed chief executive of the Royal Gunpowder Mills in Waltham Abbey. He was previously the director of London’s Cartoon Museum. Sullivan has been succeeded at the Cartoon Museum by Beth Bryan, who has held senior roles at the Barbican Centre, Hogarth’s House  and National Lottery Heritage Fund. 

Katrina Brown will step down as the founding director of the Common Guild (TCG) in the spring, after almost 20 years in the role. TCG’s curator Chloe Reith will become interim director during a transitionary period for the Glasgow-based visual arts organisation. 

Birmingham Museums Trust has appointed Stephen Hughes as chair of its board of trustees. Hughes, who was been the chief executive of Birmingham City Council for nearly 10 years, will take up his post in February. He succeeds Niels de Vos, who has the trust’s chair since 2020.   

The UK’s cabinet secretary for constitution, external affairs and culture, Angus Robertson, has announced the appointment of Catherine Muirden as the chair of the board of National Galleries of Scotland. Muirden has held positions in the arts, retail and financial sectors.
