The Barbican arts centre in London has appointed Devyani Saltzman as its new director for arts and participation. Saltzman is a Canadian writer, curator, public thinker and cultural leader with more than 15 years of experience in cultural institutions. She will take up her new role in early July.

Nicole Yip has been appointed as the director of the Spike Island arts venue in Bristol. She is currently chief curator of exhibitions and live programmes at Nottingham Contemporary. Yip, a Canadian curator and writer based in the UK, will take up her role at Spike Island in June. She succeeds Robert Leckie, who recently joined Gasworks in London as director.

Barnsley Museums has recruited Lynne Minett appointed as its group leader of heritage and museums. Minett is currently the head of learning at the National Railway Museum in York, where she is responsible for public engagement including adults, young people, families, communities and school’s programmes.

She recently oversaw the opening of Wonderlab, a £6m interactive gallery for 7–14-year-olds. Minett is also a trustee of the Heritage Education Trust.

Calvin Winner, the head of collections at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, University of East Anglia, has been appointed as director of Gainsborough’s House in Suffolk.

Winner, who will begin his post in early May replaces Mark Bills, who announced he was stepping down last year after just over a decade in the role.
