Sarah Levitt has retired after 20 years as the head of arts and museums for Leicester City Council. Joanna Jones, the previous director of museums and galleries for Canterbury City Council, has taken up Levitt’s role.

Arts Council England has filled three key director posts to start in March.Kate Bellamy will be the director, museums; Claire Mera Nelson, the director, music and London; and Sue Williamson will be the director, libraries and Birmingham.

Marco Compagnoni has been appointed as the chair of the board of trustees of the Contemporary Art Society in London.

Hilary Carty has been appointed as the director for the Clore Leadership Programme. She takes the place of Sue Hoyle, who stepped down after 14 years in the role.

London’s National Army Museum has appointed Justin Maciejewski as the new director general. He starts at the end of February, succeeding Janice Murray who retired last October.

British sculptor and installation artist Cornelia Parker has become the first annual patron of Art UK, an online platform for UK public art collections.

Alex Byars has been appointed as the chief operating officer for Manchester International Festival 2019, leading on business development and operation of flagship new cultural venue The Factory.

Eastbourne’s Towner Art Gallery has appointed Joe Hill as its new director. Hill, who has been the director of Focal Point Gallery in Southend-on-Sea since 2013, will take up the post in March. Previous Towner director Emma Morris left in July 2017.
