Tim Knox has been appointed the director of the Royal Collection, succeeding Jonathan Marsden. Knox has been the director of the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge since 2013.

Nottingham’s National Justice Museum has appointed Victoria Reeves as its chief executive officer. Previously a leader and senior manager for the National Trust in the Midlands, she will take up the role this month.

A number of appointments have been made by Arts Council England. They include Michael Eakin, Catherine Mallyon, Andrew Miller, George Mpanga, Elisabeth Murdoch, Paul Roberts and Tessa Ross as general council members. In addition, Sukhy Johal, Kate Willard and Roni Brown have been made area chairs.

Martin Purslow has left his post of chief executive officer at the Weald & Downland Living Museum after nearly two years in the role.

Dame Judith Macgregor was appointed to the board of VisitBritain for three years from December 2017. She retired from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office last year after 40 years of service.

Dan Byrne-Smith, a senior lecturer in Fine Art Theory at Chelsea College of Arts, has been appointed by the Horniman Museum and Gardens in London as its first art, design and natural history fellow. Over the next three years he will explore the collection through the lens of science fiction and environmental issues to engage audiences further.

Sandra Dinneen, Paul Farmer, Patrick Newberry, Susie Thornberry, and Richard Upton have been appointed as commissioners – the governing body – of Historic England from 1 January until 31 December 2021.
