“The main reason I became involved as a volunteer in early 2012 was the Heritage Motor Centre’s ambitious plan to increase the size of its display with a new building.
This is to be supported by lottery funding and will enable much of the reserve collection to go on show. Work is scheduled to be completed later this year.
While the building takes shape, we have had other projects to occupy us, including vehicle restoration work, data collection and, particularly interesting for me, an oral history project to collect motoring stories from enthusiasts of all ages.
Starting in 1973, I worked in the motor industry for many years for Ford and Jaguar.
I was a financial analysis manager, mostly in product development, working in project teams on new models.
I was finance manager for the Jaguar S-Type and X-Type programmes. I was also plant controller at the Jaguar Castle Bromwich plant for several years. It was a privilege to work on such iconic products.
I took early retirement in 2007. Volunteering here is a great way to stay in touch with the motoring world. I’m also involved in many other volunteering activities, including leading mountain walks for a holiday company, hospital driving and serving in our village community shop.”
